AMINA'S VOICE, by Hena Khan

The story: Amina knew things were going to change once she started middle school, but she never expected to worry about losing her best friend, about her brother getting into trouble, or about someone vandalizing their mosque. How can a girl feel confident about her life when everything seems to be changing all at once?

June Cleaver's ratings: Language PG; Violence PG; Sexual content G; Nudity G; Substance abuse G; Magic & the occult G; GLBT content G; adult themes (racial and religious prejudice; terrorism) PG-13; overall rating PG.

Liz's comments: I liked this story, told from an unusual point of view. I do think, however, that its best target audience is grades 4-6.
