NOT IF I SAVE YOU FIRST, by Ally Carter

The story: Maddie and Logan were best friends until the Russians tried to kidnap his mom--the President's wife. Maddie's dad was injured in the attack, and as a result, he took his daughter and disappeared--literally--into the wilds of Alaska. Six years later, Maddie can flip a hatchet and kill a fly, but she's coldly angry that Logan has never answered any of her letters. When the First Son goes too far one too many times, his parents ship him off to Alaska to be out of the limelight until things die down. Little do they know that he's the target of a revenge plot, and that being out of the limelight makes him irresistible to the plotters. Now it's up to Maddie and her survival skills to get them out of this alive. Knives at forty paces, bad guys?

June Cleaver's ratings: Language PG-13; Violence PG-13; Sexual content PG; Nudity G; Substance abuse G; Magic & the occult G; GLBT content G; adult themes (kidnapping, revenge, political conspiracy) PG-13; overall rating PG-13.

Liz's comments: I really liked this one! Gone is the angsty, mentally-ill component that made the Embassy Row series kind of a beating to read (and better for HS readers). This is an accessible survival story with a smart, strong heroine and a suitably hunky, apologetic hero. Thumbs up!
